It was invented by James Dewar of Continental Baking in River Forest, Illinois. Known as Twinkie, this lunch box size dessert is jokingly rumored to stay fresh for up to a hundred years (due to the preservatives) and has been a childhood (and adult comfort food) favorite ever since.
