About World Hippo Day

DESCRIPTION:
Hippopotami, or hippos, are the third largest animal by weight in the world (after the whale and elephant). Their name is Greek for 'river horse', and they do spend hours a day submerged in water. Each animal can weigh up to 8,000 pounds, and as herbivores, they play an important role in the ecosystem. A hippo in the wild typically lives about 40 years.
World Hippo Day is an unofficial event with no sponsor.
