Shortbread Day celebrates the Scottish medieval biscuit that is twice-baked with sugar and spices.
Its origins date to the early 12th century when sugar was introduced to Europe via the Crusades. Other scholars attribute its invention to Mary, Queen of Scots in the 16th century.
