About National Trails Day

National Trails Day the first Saturday of June.
Sponsored by the American Hiking Society, this promotion aims to raise awareness of the benefits of the trails, encourage people to take part in trail hiking and to become vigilant in trail maintenance.
Created more than 30 years ago, this event was first organized by outdoor enthusiasts and government officials who wanted to show to the public the vast resources of the interconnecting National Trails System. This celebration also honors the volunteers, who care for trails and keep them pristine.
