DESCRIPTION:
The Tony Awards, otherwise known as the Antoinette Perry Award for Excellence in Theatre, recognize the achievements of Broadway productions and performances. An annual ceremony, this is presented in New York City by the American Theatre Wing and The Broadway League.
Considered as the highest honor for theater, this is equivalent to the Academy Awards for motion pictures and the Grammy Awards for music. The winners are determined by voters from within the theater and entertainment industry and members of the press.
