It's used to develop new products by technology companies, by ISPs for improved delivery and for research by educational institutions and individuals.
In 2017 FreeBSD Foundation chose to launch an annual day commemorating the this free technology source. FreeBSD was first released in November 1993 and originated from UC Berkley.
