Milkshake, the word, first appeared in 1885 and the concoction was combined with whisky and resembled eggnog of today. By the beginning of the twentieth century, milkshakes had evolved to a wholesome treat of milk, ice cream and flavored syrup. The invention of the blender moved milkshakes closer to what we know today and they became a mainstay of soda fountains and later fast food restaurants in the decades to come.
