The fourth Friday of August in Australia is Daffodil Day, organized by the Australian Cancer Council.
The purpose of the day is to encourage hope and support for cancer patients and their caregivers.
The daffodil was chosen as the symbol for this day because it is always first flower of spring to push its way through the frozen earth. In legend and lore this bright yellow flower represents chivalry.
