Apple launched its first emoji calendar on July 17, 2002. Emojis have become central to our communication and derived from computer shorthand used in the early days of the Internet. Currently, tens of thousands of emojis are in use worldwide. Jeremy Burge, the founder of Emojipedia, created World Emoji day in 2014 to mark the 2002 anniversary.
