Sri Krishna Janmashtami is the birthdate of Lord Krishna. The dates of his life correspond to July 21, 3227 BC - February 18, 3102 BC). Sri Krishna Janmashtami is celebrated on the eighth day (Ashtami) of the Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight) during the month of Bhado in the Hindu calendar.
Devotees fast from morning to midnight and decorate temples and homes with idols of Lord Krishna on swings and in cradles. For Hindu children, Krishna's birthday is a much anticipated holiday akin to Christmas in Christian cultures.
