Over 46 million, 14% of people in the United States, live with food insecurity and turn to the Feeding America network each year for help. They are of all races and faiths, with children and seniors hit the hardest. Food banks provide food for society's most vulnerable but also function as part of emergency services during natural and manmade disasters. National Food Bank Week seeks to raise awareness of the essential services food banks provide to communities and encourage donations and volunteers.
