DESCRIPTION:
Bhishma Ashtami occurs on the eighth day of Shukla Paksha during the month of Magha. It marks the day Bhishma of Mahabharata (Ganga Putr Bhism), the supreme commander of Hindu forces, was killed. Mahabharata is one of the Hindu faith's foundational historical books/stories. The other is the Rāmāyaṇa
Fasting and various rituals are performed on this day to safeguard the soul of Bhishma.
