DESCRIPTION:
Juneteenth was made an official Federal Holiday by President Biden on June 17, 2021. As the anniversary falls on a Saturday, it is observed on Friday. Otherwise known as Juneteenth Independence Day or Emancipation Day, is a federal holiday in the United States of America. It marks the anniversary of the abolishment of slavery in the state of Texas and the rest of the Confederate South.
On this day, there are Emancipation Proclamation public readings and traditional African American songs are sung. One can also experience parades, park parties, state fairs or historical reenactments.
