National Onion Ring Day celebrates the versatility of onion rings.
Onion rings began as a marketing campaign, using the vegetable fat brand Crisco. The dish first appeared in one of their advertisements in 1933.
Crisco was introduced in 1911 by Proctor and Gamble. Today it is owned by JM Smucker Company.
