Glioblastoma entered medical and scientific literature in the 1920s. It is the most common malignant (cancerous) brain tumor and accounts for 48% of diagnoses. Despite its devastating prognosis, only four drugs and one medical device are approved by the Food and Drug Administration to treat it.
Each year, over 13,000 new cases of glioblastoma are diagnosed in the United States. To raise awareness and promote research and cures, the US Senate passed Resolution 617 in 2020, designating July 22 as Glioblastoma Awareness Day.
