National Onion Ring Day celebrates the versatility of the onion rings.
Onion rings began as a marketing campaign, a way to use the vegetable fat brand Crisco. The dish first appeared in one of their advertisements in 1933.
The product was first introduced in 1911 by Proctor and Gamble. Today it is owned by JM Smucker Company.
