Yom Yirushalayim or Jerusalem Day is an Israeli state holiday celebrating the conquest and annexation of East Jerusalem during the 6-Day War of 1967. In Israel the day described as the Day of Reunification, when the whole of Jerusalem came under Israeli control and those of the Jewish faith.
The reunification was recognized solely in the State of Israel until December 6, 2017 when President Donald Trump declared his administration recognized the whole of Jerusalem as solely Israeli, only of the Jewish people and undivided.
Under international law, East Jerusalem is considered occupied since 1967. The inhabitants of East Jerusalem are predominantly Christians and Muslims and were under the guardianship of the Kingdom of Jordan at the time of the war.
Yom Yirushalayim is celebrated on the anniversary of the annexation according to the Hebrew calendar. This is a secular holiday.
