National Chocolate Chip Day celebrates chocolate chips. Chocolate chips are often added to cookies, cakes and even cocoa drinks.
Chocolate chip cookies were first created by Ruth Graves Wakefield of Massachusetts during 1938. She broke a Nestle chocolate bar into pieces and added the chips to her cookies recipe.
Because of the popularity of the recipe, Nestle agreed to print the recipe on the back of the chocolate bar. By 1940, Nestle began selling chocolate chip packs.
