Earmuff Day commemorates the invention of the earmuff, the 1873 invention by a boy named Chester Greenwood from Maine. The boy's sensitive ears turned weird colors in the cold. Unfortunately, he loved ice skating, and the solutions seemed too bulky or itchy. So he experimented and fashioned his Champion Ear Protector, patented in 1877.
