The Camp Fire Girls organization was incorporated on March 17, 1912, by Mrs. Charles Farnsworth of Vermont with Luther Gulick M.D. and his wife, Charlotte Vedder Gulick of Maine.
Campfire Girls were created to be a sister organization to the Boy Scouts of America. Girl Scouts were started two years later.
In 1975 the Camp Fire Girls was renamed to Camp Fire Boys and Girls to include both genders.
