Sponsored by Independence Blue Cross, National Walk at Lunch Day encourages people to "turn a working lunch into a walking lunch."
According to Blue Cross, "just 30 minutes and a pair of comfortable shoes, it's possible for anyone to fit physical activity into a busy schedule. That's the inspiration behind National Walk @ Lunch Day.
A brisk, 30-minute walk can help people:
Decrease the risk of heart attack and type two diabetes.
Maintain a healthy weight.
Improve muscle tone.
Reduce stress.
Even though National Walk @ Lunch Day only happens once a year, employers can encourage their employees to make exemplary health a priority every day by implementing a worksite well-being program with help from Independence. A worksite well-being program can help reduce healthcare costs by motivating employees to make healthier lifestyle choices.
