World Teacher Day is promoted by UNESCO, the International Labour Organization (ILO), UNDP, UNICEF, and the Education International (EI).
The day honors teachers and their vital role in raising our children and preparing them for the workforce and adulthood. The date commemorates October 5, 1966, when the intergovernmental conference convened in Paris. Here they adopted the UNESCO/ILO Recommendations concerning the Status of Teachers worldwide. This event has been recognized each year since 1994.
