DESCRIPTION:
Today celebrates the birth of Maharishi Valmiki, a poet and philosopher. The actual date and year of his birth, some time between 400 and 100 BCE, is unknown.
Valmiki is the father of Sanskrit literature, having written the epic "Ramayana." He is believed to have invented shloka, the first verse or epic metre, which set the base and defined the form of Sanskrit poetry.
