Jefferson Day celebrates the birth of America’s second president and author of the Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson. Public official, historian, philosopher, and plantation owner, Jefferson founded the University of Virginia and wrote the Statute of Virginia for Religious Freedom.
According to the Julian calendar, Thomas Jefferson was born on April 2, 1743, or April 13 in the Gregorian calendar. Jefferson died on July 4, 1826.
