Palliative Care is a fancy word for the process of dying and identifying what matters most to you and those you love.
The Productivity Commission’s recent report into human services found between 80,000 and 140,000 of the 160,000 people who die each year in Australia could benefit from high-quality end-of-life care. Dying is a normal part of life, so all Australians need to discuss death and the type of care they would want to receive if they could no longer speak for themselves. National Palliative Care Week is an opportunity to open up the conversation with loved ones and help to ensure that when the inevitable happens, it will be as stress-free as possible for the survivors and attend to the needs of the departed.
