DESCRIPTION:
National German Chocolate Cake Day is a day to commemorate the creator of the baking chocolate used in German chocolate cake: American Samuel German. German created the semi-sweet dark chocolate in 1852 while working for American Baker's Chocolate Company.
Fast forward to 1957 when Mrs. George Clay published the first recipe using Baker's Chocolate to make a cake, dubbed the German Chocolate Cake, in honor of the creator of the key ingredient.
