The hurricane season officially begins in June and ends in November. During this time, the Atlantic Ocean becomes the hub for hurricanes. In the northern Atlantic Ocean, the peak time for storms to develop is in September. People are encouraged to take precautions when a hurricane alert is announced.
Hurricanes, typhoons, and cyclones are one of nature’s most powerful and destructive phenomena. Their location determines which word describes it.
Hurricane—storm in the Atlantic and northeastern Pacific Oceans near Japan and SE Asia.
Typhoon—northwest Pacific Ocean.
Cyclone—southern Pacific and Indian Oceans.
