DESCRIPTION:
Tanabata, or the Star Festival, celebrates the meeting of the gods Orihime and Hikoboshi, which originated in China. Children take center stage, tying colorful ribbons adorned with poetry on bamboo branches throughout the nation. It takes place annually on the seventh day of the year's seventh month. Depending upon which calendar (the lunar calendar or the Gregorian calendar) is used, traditional communities may celebrate this event in August.
