DESCRIPTION:

Yitzhak Rabin Memorial Day is a national holiday in Israel that is observed annually on the Hebrew date of 12th Heshvan, which falls in late October or early November. The holiday was established to commemorate the life and legacy of Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, who was assassinated on November 4, 1995, by a Jewish extremist opposed to the Oslo Accords, the peace agreement that Rabin had negotiated with the Palestinians.

Yitzhak Rabin was a prominent figure in Israeli politics and played a key role in shaping the country's history. He was a former Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) chief of staff, and later served as prime minister in two separate terms, first from 1974 to 1977, and then from 1992 until his assassination in 1995.

After Rabin's assassination, Israel was plunged into a period of mourning and introspection, and his death is widely regarded as a watershed moment in the country's history. The establishment of Yitzhak Rabin Memorial Day was part of the national effort to honor Rabin's legacy and to promote the values of peace and reconciliation that he stood for.

On Yitzhak Rabin Memorial Day, a national ceremony is held in Rabin Square in Tel Aviv, attended by government officials, military leaders, and members of the public. The ceremony includes speeches, musical performances, and a reading of Rabin's last speech, which he delivered on the night of his assassination. The holiday is also marked by various events and programs throughout the country, including educational activities and cultural events that promote the values of peace, democracy, and tolerance.
