Japan's Doll Festival (Hinamatsuri) is an annual celebration of girls and daughters. Dolls representing the ancient imperial court are displayed, special treats are prepared, and girls are honored. The Japanese aristocracy first observed the tradition during the Heian period (794-1185 AD). Annually on March 3.
