DESCRIPTION:
For Hindus, Ekadashi is a sacred event and falls into two categories: monthly and annually. Lord Vishnu is honored monthly on Ekadashi. Annually the event is expanded during February or March for Ekadeshi of Phalgun Shukla Paksha. In the Hindu calendar, this celebration falls between Maha Shivratri and Holi.
Each observance day is marked with day-long fasting in honor of Lord Vishnu according to strict rituals, rules, and regulations. The purpose of fasting is to show sacrifice to receive love and affection from the Hindu god Lord Vishnu.
