DESCRIPTION:
World Day to Eliminate Racial Discrimination is promoted by the United Nations (UN). It is a day to raise awareness against racism and help those struggling against it and racial discrimination. The day was established in 1966 upon the adoption of a program of activities designed to combat racism throughout the world. It marks the anniversary of the 1960 Sharpeville Massacre in South Africa, in which South African police opened fire on the peaceful protesters, killing sixty-nine.
