DESCRIPTION:
National Punch Day honors the five ingredients making up a traditional punch beverage: rum, lemon, sugar, water, and tea.
First introduced by British sailors of the East India Company as a beer alternative in the 17h century, the popularity of the punch quickly spread to other countries.
The word punch comes from the Hindi word "panch" or "five." The original drink was called "pantsch."
Today punch is usually associated with fruit juices blended in a non-alcoholic cocktail or as a flavored sugar drink for children.
