The week of October 10th is National Metric Week. The United States is one of only three countries in the world that does not use the metric system as its official unit of measure. The other two are Myanmar and Liberia.
The metric system uses units of measure divisible by ten. These include millimeters, centimeters, meters, kilometers, liters, Celsius and kilograms. The US uses inches, feet, yards, miles, gallons, Fahrenheit and pounds.
National Metrics Week is an opportunity for American citizens to learn the metric system, thus preparing them for a global economy.
