As of 2012, October 11 has been celebrated as the United Nations International Day of the Girl Child, as proclaimed by the body on December 19, 2011. With that resolution, the UN official invited all of its Member States, other significant organizations of the UN and the rest of the international and/or civil organizations in the world, to honor the International Day of the Girl, and to raise awareness to the importance of girls around the world.
