DESCRIPTION:
October 20, 1952, Kenya first president (as yet a revolutionary) Jomo Kenyatta and five colleagues were arrested by British colonial forces. This is the origin of this holiday, originally called Kenyatta Day. In 2010 the holiday's scope embraced all heroes and trailblazers of Kenya's history and was renamed Mashujaa Day, Swahili for 'heroes'.
