About National Navy Day

DESCRIPTION:
The United States Navy was established as the Continental Navy on October 13, 1775 by the Continental Congress. It authorized the procurement, fitting, manning, and dispatch of two armed vessels to cruise in search of munitions ships supplying the British Army in America.
Navy Day was originally sponsored by the Navy League and marks the anniversary of its founding in 1922. The day is designed to give recognition to the naval service and its those serving it.
