Leon Day celebrates Leon Day (October 30, 1916 - March 13, 1995), one of the greatest baseball pitchers of all time. He played in the Negro Leagues between 1934-1949.
On July 23, 1942 Day struck out 18 players from the Baltimore Elite Giants, setting the record for the league. He fought for the US military during WWII and afterwards continued his career in baseball by pitching a no-hitter on opening day in 1946. All together he pitched in a record of seven Negro League All-Star Games.
Day was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1995.
Today is the anniversary of his birth.
