Cigarettes Are Hazardous To Your Health Day marks the anniversary of Surgeon General Luther L. Terry's issuance of a report on January 11, 1964 that declared cigarettes to be hazardous to health. In his own words, the report "hit the country like a bombshell," making it the lead story and front page on news sources worldwide.
The anniversary of this event is set aside to continue to raise awareness on the dangers of smoking cigarettes for the smoker and for those around him or her.
