DESCRIPTION:
Jackie Robinson Day honors the major league debut of the first African American player in the Major Leagues on April 15, 1947. He played for the Brooklyn Dodgers (today's Los Angeles Dodgers). His addition to the team marked the end of nearly eighty years of segregation in baseball.
Jackie Robinson was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1962.
Jackie Robinson Day began in 2004.
