DESCRIPTION:
Dewey Decimal System Day honors Melvil Louis Kossuth Dewey, the influential librarian born on December 10, 1851, in upstate New York.
Dewey's passion was simplifying processes, so much so that he even shortened his first name to Melvil, dropped his two middle names, and for some time even spelled his last name as "Dui."
Dewey invented the Dewey Decimal Classification (DCC) system when he was 21 while working as an assistant in the library of Amherst College. His process for classifying libraries was so revolutionary that it continues in use worldwide, earning him the "Father of Modern Librarianship."
