DESCRIPTION:
Myasthenia Gravis Awareness Month is an annual month-long awareness campaign to increase awareness of the signs, symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment of Myasthenia Gravis (MG). This disease occurs in humans and animals.
Myasthenia Gravis is an autoimmune disease where the body creates antibodies to attack the said body’s immune system, particularly the neuromuscular junction, where the nerves and muscles connect.
Women ages 30-40 and men ages 50-60 are the typical sufferers of this condition, which can include partial paralysis of the eye movement, droopy eyelids, and difficulty speaking and swallowing, resulting in choking.
In some advanced stages of the disease, patients can lose the ability to walk.
