DESCRIPTION:

On National Pink Day, people wear the color pink, enjoy eating pink food, and donate to charities.

The color pink first came to prominence in the 17th century and is described as a pale red color' The word pink derives from the Dianthus Flower with its 'pinked' petals. Pink was once an ordinary verb meaning "to decorate with a perforated pattern (pinking shears)."

Specific color combinations that use pink symbolize moods. Combined with white or blue, pink denotes memories from childhood, femininity, and sensitivity. In recent years it has come to symbolize the transgender movement.

When combined with black or purple, it represents seduction.

Throughout the centuries, you'll find pink in fashion and religious artwork. However, until WWII, pink was considered masculine, and blue was feminine.

Mamie Eisenhower, the first lady of the US during the 1950s, changed this. She loved the color, wore it, painted rooms, and surrounded herself with it. When movie star Jane Mansfield took up the pink torch, pink became the "in color" associated with women.
