Have you ever noticed that very few of the classic artists are women? There is Louise Elisabeth Vigee Le Brun, Berthe Morisot, Artemisia Gentileschi and Mary Cassatt, but overall, it is hard to find more than a couple women per century among the esteemed classics. Is that because women do not have talent? No. It's because until the past 150 years, women weren't really allowed to be artists. It's better today, but the professional art world is still overly represented by men. United Nations Women created HeForShe Arts Week to elevate female artists and press for gender equality in art the world over.
