Parasols, sunshades, umbrella, brolly, parapluie, rain shade, gamp, bumbershoot or umbrolly, however you refer to it, today is the day to flaunt superstition and Open an Umbrella Inside Day.
Umbrellas have been protecting people from the wind, sun, snow and rain since around 2000 BC. The superstitions originate in pagan faiths that believed in various gods and spirits were represented by the natural world. It was believed that opening an umbrella indoors would block these spirits or gods, thus leaving you unprotected.
