Cervical Cancer Awareness Month seeks to raise the awareness about this highly treatable disease. Multiple different screening tests for cervical cancer and there vaccines against human papilloma virus (HPV - the main cause for cervical cancer). However, most women suffering from cervical cancer have never or rarely been screened for it. The pap smear is a standard part of the recommended annual women’s exam and used to detect it.
When found early, cervical cancer is highly treatable and doesn't cause major disruptions to life. If caught late however, it can be deadly.
