Golden Week in Japan is a special period beginning April 29 through the beginning of May. It includes several public holidays.
On April 29 Japan celebrates three events:
Emperor's Birthday (which was until 1988 but is still acknowledged);
The original Greenery Day (celebrated from 1989 until 2006);
Sh_wa Day (since 2007).
May 3 is Constitution Memorial Day;
May 4 is the official Greenery Day since 2007;
May 5 is Children's Day.
The length of the week officially depends upon how the auspicious days fall within the standard week. Golden Week can end on May 3, 4, 5 or 6 depending upon the year.
