Run-up-the-Flagpole Day is a day in the U.S. that comes from 'Let's run it up the flagpole and see if anyone salutes it'. This is a phrase that became popular in the 1950s. It means ‘to present an idea and see whether someone's find it favorable’.
The phrase itself is nowadays considered a cliché, but the day remains to encourage us to present our unique ideas with less hesitation.
