DESCRIPTION:
Pi Approximation Day is a play on numbers: the seventh month of the year and the twenty-second day of that month. Math enthusiasts celebrate this day as the standard approximation of pi: twenty-two divided by seven.
Pi Approximation Day began at the Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden. Pi is the mathematical constant equivalent to the 3.14159 or the diameter ratio to a circle's circumference. Pi is an irrational number; thus, it cannot be a common fraction.
Since the 18th century, the Greek letter 'π' has represented pi.
