Each April, the Autism Society sponsors National Autism Acceptance Month (NAAM). The event is supported by Presidential/Congressional declarations, online events and activities, and local events and activities through affiliates. Participants often place the NAAM logo badge on their blog, Facebook profile, Twitter page, or other social media sites. Participants also share stories and successes. Barefoot, One Day Without Shoes: April

Communities will hold collection weeks and observance days throughout April. Dates vary by location. One Day Without Shoes is a day designed to bring global awareness to children's health and education by going without shoes for the day. The event is the brainchild of Toms Shoes, an American company with a unique philanthropic edge. The company donates a pair to a needy child for each pair of shoes they sell. The event had its website between 2009 and 2013. Since 2014, Tom's corporate site and social media presence have handled all details of this annual event. Toms appears to have stopped this event as of 2018. However, Cornhuskers Bank has picked up the flag and sponsors it in April.

Beaver Awareness Month: April

Beaver Awareness Month seeks to teach people how to help the engineers of the wild, the beaver, and this animal’s critical role in an ecosystem. Less than ten percent of the original beaver population still exists in North America’s beaver and even fewer in Eurasia. Beaver dams filter silt from streams, create watering holes, wetlands, and connect streams and rivers to organic floodplains. Their absence has caused increased pollution, the drying up of estuaries, and reduced natural fertilization, which occurs with flooding. Beaver Awareness Month began in 2022.

Bereaved Spouses Awareness Month, Intl: April

Bereaved Spouses Awareness Month supports spouses who have lost a partner. Often people don't know what to say to or do for grieving spouses. Sometimes, they turn away and do nothing. People are encouraged to turn back and begin to reach out to bereaved spouses by giving them someone who will listen to them without advising them, a shoulder to cry on, and a hug when appropriate and needed. This event inspires people to "be there" for the bereaved.

International Black Women's History Month celebrates the contributions, struggles, and achievements of Black women worldwide. It provides an opportunity to recognize the intersectional experiences of Black women, including their race, gender, class, sexuality, and other factors that shape their lives. Throughout the month, events honor the achievements of Black women in various fields, including arts, literature, science, politics, and social justice. It is also a time to reflect on the ongoing struggles that Black women face in their efforts to achieve equality and justice and to recognize the vital role that Black women have played in the fight for civil rights and social justice worldwide. International Black Women's History Month, created in 2014, provides a platform for celebrating Black women's contributions and amplifying their voices.

Cancer Control Month: April

National Cancer Control Month began as a joint congressional and presidential decree on March 28, 1938 (52 Stat. 148; 36 U.S.C. 103). It is renewed annually by the President. Each year an estimated half million Americans will lose their lives to cancer, and three times that many will be diagnosed with this devastating illness. Federally funded research has brought about landmark advances in cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment that promise real change for the millions of Americans facing this disease. Sophisticated analysis continues to shed light on the molecular basis of cancer and unlock new therapies. Innovative studies pave the way for effective treatments for deadly cancers, including melanoma. And new research shows that screening procedures can reduce mortality from lung cancer, which could save lives among those at most significant risk. Community College Month, or #CCMonth, is a month-long grassroots education and stigma-busting campaign coordinated by the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT). The primary goals of #CCmonth are to improve awareness of the economic, academic, and equity advantages of attending community colleges and to bust longtime stigmas wrongly associated with public two-year colleges. Public community colleges are a uniquely American educational model designed to guarantee all people access to affordable, high-quality higher education. They are the primary educators of life-saving nursing and other healthcare professionals. They also serve as an onramp to bachelor’s, master’s, and higher-level degrees for many students, particularly for the most demographically and socioeconomically diverse students. They guarantee fair admissions for all students and offer support for adult students who must work to support their families. Without community colleges, many American students would not be able to access higher education at all. Despite all this, many American people wrongly believe that community colleges are inferior institutions, and in most states, universities receive significantly more per-student state support than community colleges do. These negative attitudes and disparities help and encourage ongoing socioeconomic and demographic disadvantages and inequities in the United States.
